Such clever writing, unlike anything else on television, a surprise to see Ray Romano in this role, but totally refreshing. Many thanks for reading LAist. Just finished watching tonight's episode. While it was unfortunate that the show missed nomination cut-offs for the Emmys, SAG, and Writers Guild Awards, we're confident that the show won't be missing from the contender sheets next time around.
On Screen Actors Guild Awards weekend we talked to Brittany Curran , who gave us further insights on the show - this was after we spoke to Scott Bakula at a pre-awards ceremony a couple days earlier. We feel that viewers have really lucked out with not only getting "Men of a Certain Age" wins out. We don't do much shopping, little homemade gifts are better. He is calling if infidelity now and rightfully so. Yes, Alex M looking at perhaps some of the basic ethical issues such as respecting one's privacy, or crossing the line of rumor, into blatant embellishment of innuendo and trash talk, just to sell more magazines, or attract more viewers. So looking forward to next Monday evening. This new showcase will obviously allow Ray Romano's genuine depth of on-screen abilities to shine, and I can't wait to see this series w/ so much early potential unfold and evolve. Romano's surprisingly strong showing in the pilot shows me that he definitely has a great reservoir of acting talent than perhaps we only caught small glimpses of on "Raymond", since as Carolina argued, Ray was kind of locked into that cliched, hen-pecked, hapless, harried husband persona. But the general tone of the series was of angst and mild dysfunction, the playing out of the trials and tribulations of young folk just trying to get on w/ their varied middle-class lives.
If you may recall the series "30 Something" back in the '80s, there were many humorous and lighter moments on this critically acclaimed, yet ratings-challenged show. From what I have so far observed, humor does play a large role in the running narrative, but there is also the whole gamut of other human emotions portrayed by these three exceptionally gifted, smartly-cast lead actors. Sadly, so many good Americans are forced to take jobs that don't really feed the heart, or the soul, and begrudgingly go thru the monotonous motions to earn enough money to merely scrape by, and support their families.
